running and the appetite that follows

for the past 2+ weeks, paolo and i have been on a tear to see who can pile up the most miles in 30 days *see nike plus challenge for a past story*. all i have been doing during my free time after work and during the weekends is running. i did a 5 mile run this morning at around 5:30 am. my legs needed that rest from monday but they seemed to want just yet another day. i picked myself out of bed anyway and headed up. it was cool and clear…no one out except me, my iPod nano and shoes. the first mile was a little tough…but as soon as the tell-tale drip of perspiration runs down your arms, you know things are clicking.

as a result of all of this running, my appetite has picked up! and likewise, my consciousness for healthier food has escalated (let’s not mind the milk chocolate crunch bar from the work kitchen for fund raising). this morning prior to the run, i ate a quarter of a banana and had a few glasses of filtered tap water. after arriving at work, i ate half an apple, half a nectarine, a few strawberries and another quarter banana. i was still hungry shortly after. for lunch, i ate ground pork stuffed piman (piman is a smaller version of bell peppers) that riechan made us for dinner last night. added that to rice, steamed broccoli, and some raw carrots. oishiikata!

my legs feel a little heavy from all of the exercise…which is great! i think i need to incorporate more upper body strengthening exercises to balance out. that’s what tomorrow will be…
